Lithium 18650 Cells Charger By Using TP4056 Modules

Making a charger by using Lithium ion cells and TP4056 modules can be a very useful project in a sense that it costs around 5 bucks to purchase necessary components and you will get a fully functional charger at home. Though some people may not believe that but it is quite simple if you have some of the basic things in hand to make it happen.

You just have to follow the simple steps, be more precise and careful and you can do it at home and get your charger ready within a few minutes.

Let have a look into the simple yet important steps you will have to follow in case you need to make the charger on your own.

Things you will need

To make a lithium battery charger using the Lithium-ion batteries, you will need to have the following things with you:

  • 5 lithium ion batteries or cells 18650
  • 5 battery holders
  • 5 TP4056 modules
  • Connecting wire
  • One connector with two wires
  • Multimeter
  • Wire cutter and peeler
  • Soldering gun and wire
  • Double sided tape
  • A scrap or piece of plastic in a square shape
  • PC power supply


Step 1

At first, you will need to get five Lithium ion 18650 cells to make sure you have the main components of your charger. These will be used in creating the charger battery. Make sure they are in working condition and can retain the charge to be used as the charger. Clean the terminal if there is anything there because of the fact you are recycling them or in case you have bought the new ones, they will surely be ready to use. Then take the battery holders and fix some double sided tape below them to fix on the square piece of plastic which we will be using as a platform.

Step 2

Stick all 5 battery holders on the platform in a way that their positive and negative wires are propped on the anterior end where we have the space to fix the TP4056 modules. Make sure you keep all wires properly and their terminals will be popped out to be connected with the modules.

Step 3

After sticking the battery holders, make sure to stick the modules on the top side where we have the battery holder’s connecting wires ready to get connected. You can stick them by using the double sided tape as well.

Step 4

After placing all things in place, start connecting your battery holder wires to the modules. Make sure you connect the negative and positive wires properly and fix them with the help of soldering gun so that the connections are secure. After connecting the TP4056 modules with the battery holders, you will need to connect the modules together with the connector, to complete the circuit.

Step 5

Connect all positive terminals of the modules with the positive wire of the connector. You can join the first end at the first terminal and then expose the wire at regular intervals to make sure the exposed area comes exactly at the front of each positive terminal by using the pliers. Place the wire properly and connect each positive terminal by using a small piece of wire and fix them with the help of soldering gun.

Step 6

After connecting the positive wire, you will proceed to the negative one. You can also connect it to the modules by exposing the wire at regular intervals so that it can be connected to the modules on each negative terminal. Secure the connection with the soldering gun.

Now your charger is ready. Check the PC power supply if you will get the required volts. If it goes up to 5 degrees, then it is okay to proceed.

Insert the cells in the holders, fix the connector’s wires with the help of a tape and connect it to the PC power supply unit. This will start up the charging process of the batteries. If the red LED lightens up that means it has started to charge and if the green light is there then it means it has to be charged.
