How to make a portable USB mobile charger
Having a mobile charger with you could be a blessing if you want to stay connected to your friends and family all the time while on travel. There could be many times when you may find your mobile out of charge and you will need to find a charging port or source where you could get it charged again.
To make sure you are never in such a condition, you may have to buy a power bank for your mobile. But if you haven’t done yet and still need to have a quick solution to make sure you will have a power source for your mobile, you can make your own 9V mobile charger at home. This will be enough to charge your mobile and portable to be carried along with you in your handbag.
Let us have a look into the simplest way of making a portable USB mobile charger using small things you can easily find in your home.
Things you will need
- A 9V battery
- Female USB port
- A soldering gun
- A hot glue gun
- Craft knife
- 9V battery connector
- Regulator 7805
Firstly you will have to prepare the wires so that they can create a steady connection between the various components we are going to attach together in this circuit. These wires should have bare ends which will be attached to the USB port. Just make sure you have removed the cover of wires to make them clear and ready for the connection.
After that, attach the black wire and the red wire to the respective ends of the USB port terminals. These would be extreme left and extreme right and leaving the middle two points empty.
After attaching the wires secure the connection using the soldering gun so that the connection will not be loosened at any point.
Prepare the regulator. In order to make it ready for the circuit, slightly bend the two connection terminal which would be the right and the left one of the regulator, leaving the central connector as it is.
Attach the 9V battery connector to the regulator where the black wire will be attached to the middle connector and the red on the side connector. Again, secure the connection with the help of the soldering gun.
Take the USB port which has been attached to the two wires, attach it to the regulator too. Keeping the black wire in the middle and the red wire on the other terminal, secure the connection using the soldering gun.
Now the whole circuit is complete and ready to be fixed and used as a charging port. But to make sure your charger is easy to use and keep you, prepare a sturdy box to fix this whole setup.
For this prepare a small box having 10cm long Depron foam strips having about 3cm height. Cut the pieces to make sure they form a small rectangular box shaped container, where the anterior end has a small opening for the USB port to slightly come out and the whole box will contain the circuit and its components. Glue the box to make it sturdy and place the USB port in the opening, while gluing all other wires and the regulator inside the box and fix with the help of the glue.
The 9V battery connector should be left at the end so that the 9V battery is attached to it. This whole circuit should be kept in a way that no wire or the components should be pulled and make sure that the wires stay connected to the respective components having secure connections. If there is any distortion, you may not be able to charge the phone properly. So all things should be kept safely and make sure you have it placed in the right way.
Attach the 9V battery with the connector, place in the box and close the box with the appropriate sized lid and secure with the help of the sticking tape. Now the charger is ready to use and you can use it to charge your Mobile anytime anywhere.
